Better than the cracked dash
PostedNovember 4, 2014
My cover fit pretty good on the top part but not at all at the bottom where the squarish cut out was for the radio and air temp controls. I say "was" because I had to just cut that part off. It may have been that my original was warped but if so it sure warped symmetrically. The color and texture of the cover is fantastic. Overall, I'm pleased but it wasn't as easy as I read.

dash looks great
PostedAugust 29, 2014
I received my part within a few days it was exactly what I expected. It is a little tricky to glue onto the old dash. But the fit is good and overall I am very happy with the produce. Looks great and much cheaper than a new dash.

The PALCO Dashtop is well-made, and certainly looks and feels as though it can last for the life of the vehicle. Inside the box, I was pleasantly surprised to see a lifetime one-time replacement guarantee.
The instruction set was printed on the backside of the guarantee, and I actually did not notice it until after the installation was all over. I relied on my many years of experience working with materials and fixing lots of things, as well as using different adhesives, to do a good job.
The fit between the windshield crevice and old dashboard surface was tight. However, the front edge (toward the occupants of the car) was slightly off of the surface. But in most respects, the piece fit in like I would expect, with no modification.
The supplied silicon adhesive was in a tube with the PALCO name on it. I would expect silicon adhesive, because the COT of silicon is such that temperature insensitivity is high. It doesn't expand or contract very much over a wide temperature range. As a very good substitute for the included adhesive, I might suggest GOOP, a commercially available product. It looks and feels similarly to the PALCO adhesive.
During my installation, I did not sand at all. I actually did not want to modify the original surface, in case I did not like the results of the modification and wanted to return to the original dash, albeit with the full crack split into two halves that it has. However, the replacement part runs $450-600 from suppliers!
I thoroughly cleaned the back of the Dashtop and the top of the old dashboard with water-damp paper towels, and no other cleaner, until they were very clean of any dust or soil, and let air dry. Then I applied the glue, liberally in a wide stripe around the perimeter, and in other places. I did the job on a warm day, like 87 deg F. In order to get the job done, and while the glue was still getting tacky, I needed to add more glue all along the front, over the instrument cluster and across to the passenger side corner, to make sure that there was enough glue along that edge. The top still would not set up and stay down at that point, so I very quickly went and found about 10-12 bricks around the yard, and used these to weight the dashtop and make it dry in contact all over the entire surface. Then I let it all dry overnight. In the morning, I was surprised that the results were perfect. It has been three weeks now, and the bond is still tight, all over the dash. If it ever comes up, I may apply GOOP, which is an even stronger adhesive. But so far, so good with the included stuff.

The dash cover was exactly as promoted. It looks great and was relatively easy to install. This is a great alternative to an expensive commercial repair.
